For small/simple sites, yes--PHP is a great option. But if you&#039;ve ever tried to maintain a medium-to-large website or web application in &quot;plain old [insert language here]&quot; you&#039;ll find that you either wind up building-in some sort of hodgepodge framework yourself, or migrating to one eventually. Things like an ORM, display helpers, and a &quot;real&quot; templating system just add too much helpful assistance to be ignored.

I&#039;m actually considering switching back to vanilla PHP. Your tests seems to confirm that PHP is in fact the fastest/lightest/simplest option (if you&#039;re not a framework user.)
